Out of Office Surgeries

Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removal of the uterus. Most often, it can be done minimally invasively, through several small incisions on the abdomen.

Reasons for needing a hysterectomy include heavy or painful periods that do not respond to medical management, pain or pressure symptoms from big fibroids, or persistent abnormal bleeding. There are different types of hysterectomy including total (removal of the uterus and cervix) and subtotal (removal of the uterus, leaving the cervix intact).

Myomectomy

A myomectomy is a surgery to remove fibroids (benign tumors) from the uterus. Sometimes this is done through an incision on the abdomen, sometimes it can be done through the vagina. This procedure is commonly performed when fibroids cause symptoms such as heavy bleeding, pain, or infertility.

Unlike a hysterectomy, a myomectomy preserves the uterus, allowing women who wish to have children in the future to retain fertility. Typically, this is only recommended when future childbearing is planned.
